Speaking

Presentations for Your Group
You’re not alone if you have deep secrets that leave you feeling immensely lonely. The antidote to this is self-acceptance, which is realizing that your vulnerabilities don’t define you any more than your strengths do. Dr. Margaret can speak to your local group, either in person or remotely, to help individuals discover a world where everyone feels that it is normal to talk about your pain and leave behind the fear and shame that has governed your inner world.
Medical & Mental Health Professionals
Clinicians are generally taught to diagnose depression through the DSM-5 criteria of anhedonia, insomnia, appetite changes, and other classic symptoms. However, reliance upon on this official checklist will miss a large swath of people. When perfectionism is present, patients will outwardly appear to be living a productive, meaningful, and fulfilled life, but silently be suffering with secrets as they never allow themselves to feel or express feelings such as grief, fear, shame, anger, self-loathing, or worse. In her presentation, Dr. Margaret Rutherford helps health professionals to recognize when patients might be perfectly hiding their depression, how to discuss their suspicions with their patients, and what the best course of treatment is.
