I love football. And I adore the Arkansas Razorbacks.
We have a new coach for the Razorbacks, Bret Bielema. He came from Wisconsin where he has won a bunch of Rose Bowls. Our team suffered horribly due to the shenanigans of Bobby Petrino who is now with Western Kentucky and then to some apparent complete lack of coaching expertise last year with John L. Smith. I am not going to go in to all that. Petrino was a great coach but he ruled with an iron fist. Personally I am glad he is gone. John L. was just not happening.
It hasn’t gone all that well this season. As of this morning, we are three and five and we have been picked to proudly carry the banner of the worst team in the SEC this year.
The new slogan has been #neveryield. It is on Twitter, on tee shirts, on the Jumbotron at the game.
I have been up since 7:00 am cooking tailgate food. Deviled eggs, chicken wrapped with bacon with chili powder and brown sugar, my famous garlic shrimp, and guacamole. It’s what I take every game. My shrimp of course is only famous in my eyes. But it is pretty tasty if you like garlic. And shrimp.
The secret is in the avocado oil.
This is our last home game. We are playing Auburn. The odds are not in our favor and their coach, Gus Malzahn has a bit of a beef with Arkansas. College football is interesting that way.
Both coaches are wily. I think it’s going to be a fun game. I like Bielema. I liked Malzahn when he coached at Arkansas.
I will be sad when it’s over whether we win or not. Tailgating. Listening to the band. Crying when I sing the alma mater and I didn’t even go to the University of Arkansas. It reminds me of so many years of attending games with my parents and family. Cheering the team on. Calling those Hogs. Whoooo Pig Sooooie.
Nothing like it.
We will be fans and do what fans do. We will pack up our car and look forward to the next game. The next season.
