Ashley Stahl is a dynamic counterterrorism professional turned career coach and spokesperson who has made a significant impact in the field of career development. With two viral TEDx speeches, innovative online courses, and her widely acclaimed podcast, the You Turn Podcast, she has empowered clients across 31 countries to identify their ideal career paths, boost their self-confidence, and secure more job offers. Her expertise is further highlighted by her monthly career column in Forbes, and her work has been prominently featured in esteemed publications such as The Wall Street Journal, CBS, SELF, Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, among others.
Beyond these impressive credentials, speaking with Ashley is a refreshing experience. She’s bright and energetic – her laughter is infectious. Her advice about choosing a career or transitioning to one that aligns with your core values is both insightful and encouraging. She emphasizes the importance of pursuing a career where those core values can be naturally expressed, leading to deeper fulfillment and satisfaction in your professional life.
I personally discovered this to be true during my time in the music business. Although I loved singing and had a deep passion for music, the reality of being a professional musician didn’t fit many of my needs or values. The lifestyle was more than challenging, and despite my initial excitement, I found myself unhappy and unfulfilled.
Transitioning to psychology in my 30s turned out to be the best career decision I ever made. This change not only brought me with a much deeper sense of purpose but also allowed me to thrive, while helping others through their struggles and contributing to their well-being.
Practical and insightful career advice…
Ashley’s book is not merely a checklist for landing the perfect job; it is rich with personal anecdotes that provide context and depth to her advice. Reflecting on my own journey, changing careers in my late 20s took nearly nine years, but the wait was unequivocally worthwhile. I often think how beneficial it would have been to have had her book during those challenging times when I was searching for direction—her insights would’ve been extremely helpful.
Now, I invite you to listen closely to some of the most impactful advice I’ve ever received regarding how to uncover a career that not only aligns with your personal values but also facilitates continuous growth and development.
Why listen to a career coach?
It can be essential to reflect on your values and passions regularly as they may evolve over time. Engaging in self-assessment can provide clarity regarding your career path. Take time to evaluate your skills, interests, and what truly brings you joy.
But also, finding a career coach, who’s learned about the ins and outs of making career moves, is always helpful. Consider talking to a mentor or career coach to gain external perspectives that could move you in a positive direction.
