070 SelfWork: How To Love Someone Who Won’t Get Help

ByDr. Margaret April 6, 2018January 29, 2020 January 29, 2020

What do you do when you love someone who won’t get help for their depression or anxiety? This episode, sponsored by Audible.com, will focus on what my own research has found, and how we can talk about mental health treatment or therapy in a way that would make it far easier for men to consider. We’ll focus on men but women can be resistant to therapy as well. But far more women come into therapy.. so we’ll use the male gender as an example. I’ll give you seven ideas that may help — as my focus is always “what you can do about it.”

The listener email today is from a husband who believes his wife is experiencing PHD and asks how he can reach out to her.

My new book entitled Perfectly Hidden Depression has arrived and you can order here! Its message is specifically for those with a struggle with strong perfectionism which acts to mask underlying emotional pain. But the many self-help techniques described can be used by everyone who chooses to begin to address emotions long hidden away that are clouding and sabotaging your current life.

Hello and welcome! I have been a psychologist in private practice for thirty years. I began writing online in 2012, and I was just narcissistic enough to believe that I might have something fresh or funny to say about what I’d learned...(read more)
